"This is the saddest day of my life" said Lupetegui as he cleaned his eyes in sorrow. " I had no I'll intentions and my agreement with Real Madrid was very popular and not hidden" he continued.
Florentino Pérez also expressed his dissatisfaction at the quick decision taken by the Spanish football federation.  He termed their action as totally absurd and uncalled for.

The announcement that Hierro would be his replacement followed three hours after his dismissal. “It is a nice challenge. I could not say no: I would not have forgiven myself,” Hierro said.

The Juventus manager Max Allegri claimed he had already been approached by Pérez to come coach Real Madrid but he turned down the offer because he had already given his word to Juventus and had to stay loyal to his word.

The Spanish players, especially Sergio Ramos criticized the decision of dismissing Lupetegui but Luis Rubiales, president of the Spanish football federation said that the Spanish team belonged to the country and not to an individual and as such, anyone who went contrary to the rules needed to face the due consequences.

To crown it all, Zinedine Zidane leaves Real Madrid under the control of head coach Julen Lupetegui and Lupetegui leaves the Spanish football team under head coach Fernando Hierro.
