Three out of 50 Nigerian students from Taraba state university have reportedly lost their lives in the Cameroonian territory during a field trip at the Bouba Ndjida National Park of Mayo Rey Division, North region.
Their alleged deaths were caused by a falling tree uprooted by strong winds. Some students were also injured and taken to the Garoua for treatment.
The Bouba Ndjidda National park is well known for its immense elephant population and biodiversity in general, a possible reason for which these students prefered carrying out their field trip there. They were accompanied by about 6 teachers from the institution.
The corpses were taken to the Garoua CNPS hospital where they were temporarily kept and later on removed following due negociations and arrangements.
The Secretary General at North Governor's Office, Julien Ndoumba presented condolences on behalf of the Cameroonian Government to bereaved families of Nigerian students from Taraba State University who died during the said field trip at Bouba Ndjidda National Park in Mayo Rey Division of North Region.
