South African president, Jacob Zuma resigns after pressure mounted on him by his party of origin, from which he was sacked as party chair a couple of weeks ago.
Former president Jacob Zuma was largely charged of embezzlement and mismanagement of public funds. His resignation was confirmed after his speech of February 14th 2018.
In his speech, he said he has chosen to adhere to the voices of those who do not want him anymore because he does not want any blood shed or loss of life in his name. He peacefully stepped down after the protestshow held lately.
His resignation speech came at the eve to the day of a "no confidence vote" by the Parliament to impeach him. Was he scared of the outcomes of the vote? Obviously not. Earlier when the whole turmoil started, he said solemnly that he was not going anywhere and will keep on leading the people of South Africa.
His resignation comes a couple of months after that of Zimbabwe's Robert Mugabe.
There are still a good number of leaders in the continent who have become largely inefficient due to their age. Their methods and instruments of leadership do not seem to match up with the present generation's people, leading to tough times in countries where such leaders are found. Nothing will ever move until the wind of change blows past there too..
